Welcome to Matthews Historical Foundation

Since its inception in 1987, the Matthews Historical Foundation (MHF) has been a nonprofit organization comprised of dedicated volunteers. The mission and goal of the foundation is community service through the restoration and upkeep of the historic Reid House and surrounding property as well as bringing Matthews’ history to life.
The Matthews Historical Foundation is located in Matthews, North Carolina. The Matthews Historical Foundation is the proud owner and caretaker of the Reid House and the Matthews Heritage Museum, both in downtown Matthews. A Matthews, NC historic property, the historic Reid House, is available as a rental venue for weddings and other events. The Matthews Heritage Museum is a museum full of adventure for all ages located in Downtown Matthews, NC. The historic house and museum are both located near Charlotte, North Carolina serving the communities of Matthews, Charlotte, Pineville, Elizabeth, Dilworth, Ballantyne, Wesley Chapel, Waxhaw, Myers Park, and Indian Trail.
Membership and Donations

Matthews Honored for Preservation

The Town of Matthews, in partnership with Matthews Historical Foundation, was designated a Preserve America Community in 2014. Awarded from the US Department of the Interior, Matthews had the honor of becoming the 30th community in NC to receive this prestigious award. Read more here.
