Since 1987, the Matthews Historical Foundation has been dedicated to preserving the historic places, stories, and traditions that make Matthews, North Carolina, a special place to call home.
As a nonprofit organization supported by dedicated volunteers and community members, the Foundation works to protect our town’s architectural and cultural heritage through historic preservation, education, and community involvement.
From caring for two of Matthews’ treasured historic properties to supporting opportunities to explore and celebrate local history, we believe the stories of our past deserve a place in our future.
Our Mission
The mission of the Matthews Historical Foundation is to preserve the historic Reid House and Massey-Clark House, protect the cultural, architectural, and historical heritage of Matthews, and inspire future generations through education and community engagement.

Matthews Honored for Preservation
The Town of Matthews, in partnership with Matthews Historical Foundation, was designated a Preserve America Community in 2014. Awarded by the US Department of the Interior, Matthews had the honor of becoming the 30th community in NC to receive this prestigious award.
